FAQs:
Will your new surname be "Bomze Gomes Da Silva Carvalho"?
We are both going to change our names. We're going to take Gomes as our middle names, and Bomze as our last name.
This means we'll be the Bomze's in the US and Ireland, and the Gomes Bomze's in Brasil. Best of both worlds!
So feel free to call us the Gomes Bomze's or the Bomze's. (just don't call us late for dinner! - thanks, Jay for the joke)
Which of the 3 wedding celebrations should I go to?
We'd love to have you at all three (we'll send a zoom link for Dublin, and the other two will be in person). If you can only pick one, we would prefer if you came to Brasil.
What's the vibe for the two in-person celebrations? Are they weddings?
Good question - it's all still being determined, but here's the vision.
TLDR: The US will be a party; Brasil will be a full-on wedding.
USA - change of plans! We're going to celebrate in Ohio - think of it as a really fun rehearsal dinner with dancing, maybe a few toasts. Consider it more a celebration of love than a wedding. No matter what we end up doing, it'll be fun!
Brasil - the idea is that we'll have the more traditional wedding ceremony, reception, and fanfare in Rio (where Willian is from). Cariocas bring joy to everything they are a part of, and we'd love to combine our two worlds and cultures with the mountains and beaches of Rio in the background.
We'll try to do this around Carnaval time (FYI: March 5, 2025 is the actual Mardi Gras day). We're not sure yet if it'll be before or after Fat Tuesday, but the goal is to keep travel costs down for folks that want to come to the wedding but don't want to attend Carnaval, and give Maggie's carnival-loving friends the ability to easily make a full vacation including Carnaval, the wedding, and some high-quality beach time.
Sidenote: Willian and Maggie highly recommend making a trip out of it. In Brasil there's Paraty, Buzios, Salvador, São Paulo, and more. And in South America, there's a tonne of options including Uruguay, Argentina, Patagonia, Peru, Chile, endless possibilities. Let us know if you need recommendations!
When will you know about timelines and details for 2024 and 2025?
Willian and Maggie are headed to Brasil in February 2023, so they'll get a better understanding of venues and what they are doing after that point.
They aren't in a big rush, but will try to give folks an update as soon as possible. We know that there is travel involved in almost all cases and want you to be able to plan accordingly.
