Here's a sightseeing guide for Massillon, Canton, and Amish Country:
Jay intends to run a tour - we'll send around more information when we get closer.
Massillon:
- Massillon Museum: Explore local history and culture through exhibits on art, photography, and local artifacts.
- Downtown Massillon: Take a stroll through the historic downtown area, featuring charming shops, restaurants, and cafes.
- Historic Fourth Street: Visit the street lined with historic homes, like the Massillon Women's Club. We'll probably organize a walking tour with our dear friend, Margy Vogt; she's an author, historian, and all-around Massillon expert.
- Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail: Walk, bike, kayak, or canoe along this historic trail, which follows the route of the former Ohio and Erie Canal.
- 21 Hole Disc Golf: I've never played, but Lincoln Park has a world-renowned frisbee golf course More info here
- Spring Hill Historic Home: 1820s farmhouse and part of the underground railroad. Well worth a tour! It began as a wool farm and converted to a dairy business in 1878.
Canton:
- Pro Football Hall of Fame: Explore the history of American football and see exhibits honoring legendary players and teams.
-
First Ladies National Library and Museum: Delve into the fascinating history of America's First Ladies through exhibits and artifacts housed in the former home of President William McKinley and his wife, Ida Saxton McKinley, in downtown Canton, Ohio.
-
William McKinley Presidential Library & Museum: Learn about the life and presidency of President William McKinley through exhibits and artifacts.
-
Canton Classic Car Museum: Marvel at a collection of vintage automobiles, including classic cars and memorabilia.
- Downtown Canton Arts District: Discover galleries, studios, and theaters showcasing local art and performances.
- Canton Brewing Company: Sample craft beers and enjoy brewery tours at this historic brewery located in downtown Canton.
- MAPS Air Museum: hands on, military aircraft museum. Laurie and Jay said it's pretty interesting.
Amish Country:
- Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center: Learn about the history and culture of the Amish and Mennonite communities through exhibits and tours.
- Amish Country Byway: Take a scenic drive along this route through picturesque farmland, villages, and covered bridges. See the horse and buggies, bicycles, and the newest loophole - electric bikes!
- Heini's Cheese Chalet: Iconic Amish country cheese factory that offers visitors a delightful experience, showcasing a wide array of artisanal cheeses and providing insights into the traditional cheese-making process. We also highly recommend the kettle corn from the parking lot.
- Lehman's Hardware or Keim Lumber: Visit this unique store in Kidron, offering traditional products and tools used by the Amish community. Kiem is the largest lumber yard on the east coast (we think).
- Amish Country Flea Market: Browse handmade crafts, quilts, furniture, and fresh produce at this bustling flea market in Walnut Creek.
Cleveland:
Cleveland has loads to do, but Maggie's personal favorite is hands down the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It celebrates awesome music with iconic exhibits, interactive displays, and memorabilia honoring legendary artists and bands from across history. It's a great time!

Yes! Both work in the area - for local trips, and for trips to the airport. Drivers tend to be VERY friendly and will usually talk to you the whole time.
The important thing to note: Sometimes it can take 15-25 minutes for the car to come get you.
This means if you are going from dowtown Massillon to Mélange, you'll want to order the ride by 5:30 pm at the latest in order to arrive by 6:00 pm.
The same thing applies to airport rides!
